- Communication
Communication is vital and the key to
fundraising success. The ability to effectively express your goals
and ideas among committee members as well as your sellers, parents,
teachers etc cannot be over-emphasised.
Are you utilising all available
communication channels including assemblies, newsletters, bulletins,
posters, special events, email, websites etc to remind and motivate
your sellers?
- Record
Keeping
Keeping accurate financial records helps
you to determine actual costs, expenses and profits for each project
your group undertakes. Always make sure that monies are banked in a
nominated school/organisational bank account every two days. Keep a
record of all ticket sellers, serial numbers of books distributed,
sold books and monies collected. By keeping records, the job of
fundraising becomes much more manageable.
If you have helpers/volunteers insure
they are following the same recording procedure as yourself.
- Attitude
Volunteers, parents and teachers are
usually very busy people. Understandably they will quickly become
discouraged if their efforts are:
| a) |
not appreciated |
| b) |
not recognised |
| c) |
not rewarded |
How much space does it take in a
newsletter to list all the sellers who reach a certain level of
sales? How much effort is the committee willing to display (knowing
that they will also be recognised) to reach their financial goal?
Anything that is done on a volunteer
basis to help your cause should be recognised. It costs next to
nothing YET it can make a huge difference in people’s attitude and
results.
